Ok, I got it
The Verdon Gorge
We arrived in Castellane at 5pm which just gave us time to go to the chapel overlooking the town before dinner
Castellane from the top - thats the Verdon below
Our first walk took us scrambling up into the hills above the town
And then we walked on to La Palud sur Verdon - 21k with a lot of up and down but finishing with this superb view of the Gorge
The last pic was taken from a ruin atop the peak at Rougon - quite a scramble up - it looks like this from below
From La Palud we walked the actual Gorge - the Sentier Bastion is on the right bank high above the river - here's the route
There's several tricky bits on it - this is the hardest
Next day we did the standard walk through the Gorge on the GR4 - the Sentier Martel - going down from the Chateau de la Maline. The chateau can just be made out at the top. When I was last here 12 years ago we climbed the wall you can see below it (nearly 1,00ft high) - well beyond me now.
Here's just a few of the photos I took going through the Gorge
You know you're near the end when you reach this tunnel - 650m long - torches highly recommended
After this we walked the GR4 to St Moustiers Ste Marie and spent our last days in the area in this lovely hillside village - this is the village church
