Ok, I got it
Le Praz de Lys
From where we were staying this mountain - the Pointe de Marcelly (1999m) dominates the view north
When you get to Le Praz de Lys you rapidly appreciate that there are many other great mountain walks around
20 minutes into the walk you reach a viewpoint
The views were very atmospheric with lots of valley cloud - on the left is the Aig Verte with the Dru in front and the Grande Jorasses to their right
The route up keeps to the ridge crest all the way (at the top there is a less airy way to the right)
Just to prove I did get there
Looking back down the route up
Looking back along the ridge. You can see that there are steep rocks just below the summit where there is a small via ferrata - not difficult even in descent, although one person on the summit had brought the appropriate gear for its ascension. It can be avoided by descending back down the easy way up then taking the path which leads round the difficulties back to the ridge with scarcely any height needing to be regained. You can easily see the path in the pic.
The next high point on the ridge is the Pointe de la Cournesse (1980m). From here on the ridge is very easy except for one short rock pitch of Moderate standard to the top of the Frete de Pensille which can be avoided by a small footpath on the left.
The views looking back are stupendous - that's Mont Blanc of course
Long before the ridge finishes a big track is reaching leading easily back to the start via the Lac du Roy
